Tijuana, Mexico - Buenos Aires, Argentina

Buenos Aires, Argentina and a view of the Avenida Nueve de Julio
I recognize the fact that in many ways I am one Lucky Gringo. Part of my good fortune lies in the fact that I have been able to live and work in different destinations around the globe over the years. I spent several of those years living in Argentina, divided between the beautiful northern city of San Miguel de Tucuman in the foothills of the Andes and the capital city of Argentina - Buenos Aires. Life in the Atlantic port city that fronts the Rio de la Plata and looks across the water to Montevideo, Uruguay taught me why Buenos Aires is considered one of the most affluent, cosmopolitan cities in the world.

I loved my life in that exciting city but fate had other plans for me and would bring me here to Baja California, Mexico. Today I live along the Pacific Ocean, just a few miles outside of Tijuana, the busiest border city in the world.

A few days ago, while sharing coffee with friends  I made the comment that I have found some images here in Tijuana that in some ways remind me of my life in Buenos Aires. One of those

friends actually spit his java out in response to the idea that I could actually compare the two cities. Tijuana and Buenos Aires are different in many ways and on many levels. Yet I have found that they do share some things that are curiously similar. I have put together a sequence of images and I ask you to indulge me for a moment and open yourself to the idea of seeing what these two cities share on some level. One photo might present a bigger, brighter or even "flashier" image than its counterpart but don’t let that initial impression stop you. Our connection with "images" often happens on emotional and even intellectual levels at times and perhaps that is what I have found intriguing in some of these images. Whatever you take away from this, I can assure you that I feel fortunate to have lived in both cities and have come to understand that personal wealth is truly measured in what we have learned and shared with others in the journey of life. I keep a close emotional tie to both cities with years of my life spent walking their streets.

I want to thank and give credit to friends on SkyscaperCity for some of these images of Tijuana used in this discussion on images…
